Seismic design of landmark development complex

Over the course of an international arbitration concerning a landmark coastal development in Azerbaijan, I was involved to assist the appointed structural expert advising the solicitors for the civil and structural designer. The project comprised an offshore hotel, office and residential towers, and a retail centre on reclaimed land. The dispute concerned the extent of design completion following termination of the designer’s contract. Work included targeted technical analysis of claims relating to the adequacy and design efficiency of key structural elements in a high‑seismic context, and my findings were incorporated into expert reports and joint statements to narrow issues and assist the Tribunal.
